MASSAGE CHOICES

Gua Sha

Originating within Traditional Chinese Medicine, Gua Sha is a scraping technique using a small copper tool which breaks up adhesions and increases circulation. "Sha" is a term used to describe the reddish, purplish coloration that occurs during treatment. It is NOT a bruise. The process of the work draws stagnant fluids to the surface of the body, allowing fresh blood to circulate through the area, often bringing an immediate relief from pain.

Cupping

Originating in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Cupping is a technique of extraction, different from other massage techniques. The silicone cups use negative pressure to increase circulation, lift muscles and release adhesions. The effect of separating fascial layers is a very powerful myofascial release technique with longer lasting results. The healing effect of "Sha" may occur on the skin as a result of the treatment but usually disappears within a day or two after treatment.

Hot Stone

Incorporating Hot Stones during the massage session is a very grounding, relaxing and soothing experience. Stones are pre-warmed to a safe temperature, oil is applied to the skin and the warm stones are applied to the body in conjunction with massage strokes. The purpose is to increase circulation, stimulate the lymphatic system and release tense muscles. This modality is beneficial to eliciting the relaxation response in the body so healing can occur.

Esalan (Relaxation)

Esalen Massage (EM) is known for its healing and nurturing touch; it combines long strokes, gentle rocking and stretching, sculpting of deep musculature and the precision of acupressure. However, EM goes beyond the physical result of bodywork by focusing on energy exchange and psychological well-being.

Lomi Lomi

Originating in the Hawaiian Islands, Lomi Lomi is a full body massage using the rhythms of the ocean and working systematically up the body to create a relaxing, invigorating experience.
A cleansing process also takes place, releasing toxins, cleaning up the body, releasing body tension, healing pain and boosting the immune system.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage will work out the knots from stressed, overworked muscles and connective tissue (fascia) to alleviate immediate pain, as well as chronic joint and muscle pain. It also promotes faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation.
